Thinking back over 2008 brings such joy and amazement over the blessings God has given our family. In all honesty, it was a little tougher than the previous few years with us learning how to parent 3 children, me having some health issues, as well as, the loss of my uncle and half-sister. But oh how faithful the Lord has been through every detail!! 2008 was an exciting year as we transitioned into raising THREE boys, Brandon surviving many layoffs and buyout with his job, us getting a new mini-van after 11yrs!, I began working for our church as Childrens's Ministry Director, Brady started kindergarten and I began "officially" homeschooling, the boys playing soccer and taking gymnastics, me learning all about thyroid issues and lifestyle changes, us going on vacation to my aunts/uncles in Atlanta, and most recently Brandon having his 1st surgery ever (on his ankle).
We are especially thankful for each other, our family and our dear friends who make life so sweet. I am personally thankful and humbled to be the wife of an amazing man and the mom to our 3 handsome and hilarious boys - 2 job roles I absolutely LOVE!! So tonight we are playing games, making fun hats, eating queso and having a blast with my family and some friends from high school. May the Lord bless each of you in 2009 as you draw nearer to Him!
Christmas and New Years pictures will be posted soon, so stay tuned. Brandon had ankle surgery the week before Christmas and is in a non-weight bearing cast. So I've been on my own handling things (and will be for about 3 more weeks!)....hence the delay of blogging! I'm trying to keep up - I really am! :) They will be here very soon!
Love,
Christi

Christmas Fun
Below are the pictures of the boys Christmas play at church. Brady was a shepherd and had a reading part this year. He read perfectly! and Nathan was a wiseman - again! :)(next year he gets to be Joseph!) and little Corban was a wandering sheep as you will see in one of the videos. They had alot of fun and had NO fear on stage. Such cuties! Be sure to check out the videos at the bottom of the pics!

Pilgrim Days end.
We had such an amazing experience during our pilgrim days. The simplicity of life is still being carried over and I am enjoying still cooking from scratch alot. We did venture into making a pumpkin pie from scratch that didn't go over so well. The pumpkin part was wonderful but our whole wheat crust tasted alot like a whole wheat cracker - ooops! The boys learned alot about life in the 1600's - things they are still talking about today. OH, and we even dressed up for the Thanksgiving Feast at Christi's parents. It was a memory we will not soon forget! (You can click on the slideshow under the picture to see all the pictures from our pilgrim adventures)

"Our Family Pilgrimage"
We have been studying about pilgrims from England & Holland since the start of the school year and they just landed at Plymouth last week. So, we decided our family would journey into living like Pilgrims for the month of November - ending at Thanksgiving. Due to Corban having ear surgery, our start date got postponed until this past Sunday. This ends our first week! We have had so much fun. Brandon and I call it our journey to simplicity! We started our journey on the large rug in our living room acting as the Mayflower. Noone could leave that rug and each person only got to bring 2 items for our 1hr journey. It was quite the stormy adventure as the Mayflower was quickly transformed into a Wrestlemania cruise!. Oh Well! Our TV's have pictures taped to the front that the boys drew (yep, no TV!), our microwave broke right before this all started so we're just waiting to get a new one (it's amazing how good quick food taste in the oven), no computer time or leapsters for the boys (Brandon's job as a software engineer makes him exempt and I always have my excuses to use the computer - hey, I just got my own personal 19" laptop and it needs breaking in, right?), I'm making most things by scratch (yummmy indian corncakes!), we've washed a load of laundry in buckets in our backyard (that's just a 1 time thing!), we made cornmeal playdough (the pilgrims didn't have flour when they arrived), we've built pilgrim houses with oil papered windows, made Indian headresses and a kid-sized wigwam (TeePee) - OH, and all their toys have been removed from their room! (well, except their wooden tinker set and a few lego's). Corban was exempt from the toy removal for obvious reasons! Stay tuned to our next weeks adventures in Plymouth! Should prove to be even more challenging and fun than this one!

Halloween Fun!
We had such a great time this year making costumes. I told the boys they could choose anything they wanted, but we weren't spending money this year! So, these are their homeade costumes....total $3 spent on some duct tape. Everything else was cardboard and things we already had around the house. The boys were SO cute!

HAPPY 6th BIRTHDAY, BRADY!
Today is Brady's birthday and it's such a joy to be his mom! We woke him up to a room full of Balloons, he got his traditional kolaches and donuts for breakfast and then has gotten presents from each family member throughout the day. He's been so cute and has had so much fun celebrating.
5yr update: Brady easily described? - a mini- Jim Carrey! I so wish that weren't true but it SO is! He makes up his own jokes ALL THE TIME that really make sense, has the funniest faces, can do interesting things with his body, LOVES to pretend and imagine and is to say the least - VERY SILLY! The only time he is really serious is when he is building his Lego creations or drawing. Then he's in deep thought and contemplation! Needless to say, we have alot of talks on the appropriateness of "when" to be silly! hehe Brady has a very sweet nature and still loves cuddling up to a good book and getting hugs. Of course, Brady is still very smart and keeps me on my toes with homeschooling. He "officially" started Kindergarten this year but all his homeschool curriculum books are 2nd grade. That's just where he is at so we keep moving forward...and we're even moving pretty slowly! :) He's doing very well and loves his Homeschool Enrichement program too that he attends 2 days a week. He and his brother constantly amaze me as they start talking to each other with the Spanish words they learned that week. Brady also has no fear of heights (like his mom!) and has reached the top of all our climable trees! I'm so glad we live in a very tall 2 story home with no entry points! He's also very social and rarely meets someone he won't start a conversation with. Brady brings so much laughter to our home daily and constantly reminds me to "loosen up", take a break and have fun! The past year some of his accomplishments are learning to tie his shoes, play the piano, has become a "master level" reader in his reading program, rode a BIG roller coaster, can dribble a basketball and shoot, can jump rope and play hop scotch, and has voted for our next President (well, he pushed the Cast Ballot button!). :) I'm sure there are tons of others, but that's a good start. We love you Brady bug!!! (stay tuned from pics of today)

Brady's SIXTH Birthday at SIX FLAGS!
Brady decided he wanted to go to Six Flags this year for his "6th" birthday instead of having a party. He had such a great time and was fascinated by everything. NOTHING scared him and thankfully he was too short for most of the rides or he would have been on them with his brother!! Unfortunately, they were both tall enough for Tony Hawks Big Spin that left me sick the rest of the day! He had a Blast with his Grandma, Grammy, and Uncle Mike and even Corban got to ride some rides. We actually went in mid-September to avoid Six Flags Fright Fest but we saved the pics to post now since it was actually for his birthday! Enjoy the slideshow of fun pics!

Pumpkin Patch

This year we ventured to a new Christian Pumpkin Patch. It has a 6acre corn-field maze that the boys were SOOo excited about. Plus it had a zip-line, mini corn-field maze, little train ride and petting zoo. We all had a great time. Unfortunately our camera died at the end when we visited the pumpkins! :) We'll get more pumpkin pics in soon. OH, and yes - that is a pig eating Corban's hands!! He had a good hold on them and didn't want to let go!

My journey to Hypothyroidism - UPDATED!!
So the short story - for the last 6-9 mo or more I have been battling with alot of ailments - hair falling out, painfully dry skin, exhaustion, memory loss (feeling stupid!), gaining weight WHILE actually trying to loose it!, freezing, weird emotions, and other things but the strangest ailment arrived in the past 3 months - overwhelming dizziness and nausea. I just assumed the other ailments were typical of long-term pregnancy recovery and being a mom of 3 so I didn't even mention all those other things to my doctor.
I have been going round and round (literally) to doctors trying to figure out why I am so dizzy and nauseas. I started off in the ER with a CT scan one night because I really thought I was dying - nothing showed up. Then on to my normal doctor for EKG's, more blood tests and other testing with negative results. Then went to an ENT to have my ears checked out - I DO have a hole in my eardrum - funny! And he referred me to a Hearing & Balance specialist to rule out Meinere's Disease. In the mean time waiting for that appt. I say my my OB/GYN to have my thyroid checked - FOUND OUT I have HYPOTHYROIDSIM. While waiting a couple weeks for an appt. with the endocrinologist for that, I had my appt. at the Hearing place and spent 2hrs being tested in every possible position and undergoing every possible hearing test to find out that I do not have Meinere's and that I only have a little loss of hearing high pitches in one ear.
SO, next stop - the endocrinologist!! AH, the relief and the joy that talking to that man has brought to my life. My appt. was today and I begin meds tomorrow to get my thyroid back in order. Come to find out, yes - most of my ailments I attributed to being a tired homeschooling mom of 3 active boys where indeed NOT normal! I am so THRILLED to know that I'm really not loosing my brain. I am usually "naturally" very structured, detailed and I tend to think pretty fun person. For the past several months, I have been structured by incredible force of myself to make it happen, detailed by LOTS of post-it notes with reminders everywhere, AND fun only by the grace of God making me so - neah, really not so fun! I cannot wait to be MYSELF again!! I'll be checked every 6 weeks to monitor my thyroid levels until they are back to a good level and then every year after that probably forever.
But God is SOOOO faithful in bringing our family closer together through this. Hearing my boys/husband pray for me before/after appt.'s and on the bad days of dizzyness have been one of the sweetest joys I've experienced. They have all been so patient and loving through these months - especially my dear husband who has had to deal with my crazy emotions! Thank you also to all my friends and family who have gone through this journey with me!! I am so thankful for all your encouragment and prayers!! ok, so that was the long story - ooops, sorry!
10-22-08 Probably one of the top 3 worst feelings of my life!! I had a severe reaction this morning to the medicine the doctor prescribed which lasted all day. So bad Brandon came home from work and I stayed in bed most of the day. So I will be starting over. My endo doctor would not discuss natural possibilities with me so I will be seeing a new doctor that does traditional/natural and other methods to solve thyroid issues. I look forward to meeting with her on Tuesday and talking through possibilities.
UPDATE 2 - 11-10-08 Today, after having all kinds of blood tests ran on me over a week ago, I met with my new doctor for a Lab review to go over all the results. She tested me for pretty much everything you can test for by blood! My results were a little overwhelming to say the least and I am still processing most of it. (Praise God though!!) Come to find out, I have pretty much NO progesterone, almost no testosterone (which yes, is important for females too!), my adrenals are very low functioning (adrenal fatique), My TSH levels for Hypothyroidism is still high and the thyroid chemical that turns T4 into T3 is WAY off and not doing what it is supposed to do. My Vitamin D is off the charts low too which plays a significant part in that chemical working. She is assuming my reaction to Synthroid is because I have adrenal fatique and Synthroid can make everything way worse if your adrenal is messed up. (go figure!) OH, and ontop of my hormones being horribly messed up, it has caused an elevation in my cholesterol too! (which hypothyroidism can do) So, the plan right now is to work on my adrenals, to get my prosterone levels back to normal and create Vit D in my body through natural progesterone cream (which I used to conceive Corban and throughout pregnancy - AMAZING stuff! - now I know why it took me 10yrs to conceive!), very high Vit D supplement and Fish Oil with Plant Sterols. I'll go back in a month to review symptom improvements and will have everything wrong retested in 3 months to see how things are going. OH, and get this - I am supposed to get 9hrs sleep a night!!! Yeah, and she was adament about that! She also homeschooled all her kids back when it was really hard to do and was very encouraging that my kids would survive if I needed to put some things on hold for now. I was really encouraged by her listening, going through ever peice of labwork with me (and making me a copy!) and then step by step going through what everything meant and steps to make it better. I've never met someone like her! I am so thankful for the Lord leading me to her. She said that I should be feeling remarkedbly different in about 2-3 weeks. Oh, wow - I wonder how that is going to feel -it's been so long since I haven't just had to push through being tired and create emotions for being excited about everything. Oh for them to just come natural again! I'm trusting God that we are at the end of this very seemingly long journey!

Grandparents Day - Boys school
Monday was Grandparents day at the boys homeschool enrichment program - a day for the grandparents to meet their teachers and to spend time with their grandchildren at school. They had snacks for them and got to work on things with them. Nathans class was first where they got to help him trace his hand, cut his hand and glue it on a grandparents poem poster. Then we were off to Brady's where they helped him fill out his family tree. Brandon's parents were out of town so this time it was just mine -Grammy/Granddaddy. Brady & Nathan loved showing off their new school!

Labor Day at Turner Falls, Oklahoma
For Labor Day this year, the day before school started for Brady & Nathan, we took a family vacation day to Turner Falls, Oklahoma. The boys were definitely in their element with rocks and water galore! Even castles to explore! We had an amazing day! (sorry it's so late getting posted!)
Enjoy the slideshow! OH, if you click anywhere on the slideshow it will take you directly to the pictures in larger format.

Happy Adoption Day, Nathan!
Today is such a special day in our family - the celebration of Nathan's final adoption hearing- his Adoption Day! Some people call this "gotcha day" but since we actually "got him" at birth that title doesn't quite fit for our family. Nathan (and Brady too) has a special Adoption Lifebook that I put together for him that has all his birth pictures, his birth family pictures, hospital pictures, e-mails announcing him, all the e-mails corresponding with his birth mom before birth and every detail describing what a blessing his life truly is. As he grows older, it should answer almost any question he has! Although he has this album to look at anytime, today we look at it more in detail and discuss a little more each year. He's only 4, so he still hasn't quite put all the pieces together. He just knows what an amazing birthmom, birthdad, and birth family he has that love him so much that they made this choice for him. They are all truly amazing and we are humbled and honored that we were chosen to be his parents. We love you, are overwhelmingly thankful and praise God daily for knitting our lives together.
Once again, Nathan chose the Rain Forest Cafe for his celebration. I think we have officially started a tradition!! He had such a wonderful time and this year he got an extra special treat! We let him create his own Build-A-Bear "Tiger". OH, how excited he was! He got to put in his heart, his stuffing and name him - a little boy dreamy adventure! (he's sound asleep with him as I write!) It was a wonderful night showering him with extra special attention and love!

1st day of Kindergarten and Pre-K
Wow, our little Brady started Kindergarten this year!! I keep telling myself this fact waiting for it to eventually sink in! But even as we start homeschool I still can't believe he's really officially in school now! He started his Homeschool Enrichment program today which he will go to on Mondays & Fridays from 9-2. He'll be getting Art, PE, Spanish, History, Science and Character on those days, as well as, making lots of new friends! He gets all that at home too and he's really enjoying our new homeschool set-up and curriculum - mostly 1st & 2nd grade material. Brady is an amazing reader so this year has been more fun than ever since I don't have to read everything to him! :) I foresee a very fun and awesome year!!
Nathan also started their MDO PRE-K program which is at the same time. He'll be getting computer, spanish, art, science, and of course all the fun pre-k stuff! He's doing homeschool this year, as well, with mostly Kindergarten and 1st grade material. My focus this year though is just to build his confidence in reading and to get rid of the "I can't do it's" that seem to plague him. :) He's actually a great reader!
My boys are getting SOOO big!!! I can't believe how the days fly by, especially now that I am home 2 days a week with just Corban and he takes a 2.5 hr nap during that time. I'm actually getting to sit and write this with full brain cells! It's just 10:42am and I've already gotten all my grocery shopping done for the week, the house is picked up and I can't believe I get to accomplish other things besides the basics! woohoo! Well, better get to that laundry peeping at me... :)

Corbans 1st Birthday
We now have a 1yr old little Corban. He is getting SO big, SO fast!! He can now stand up on his own in the middle of the floor and loves to dance! He's still not walking yet but is taking more and more steps...shouldn't be too far off! Corban is still a pretty happy little guy who loves to follow his brothers around. He LOVES balls, cars, animals and music (especially a spatula and pans!). He is learning so much these days. He can now say dada, mama, ball, up, nana(banana), loon(balloon), all done, hop, block, and some more I just can't think of. He can also sign on his own initiative correctly please, more, all done, and help. Oh, and can make the animal sounds to a lion, monkey, sheep, duck, elephant, and dog. Did I say he LOVES balls? and he definitely knows what to do with a bat! Quite the little slugger with some great arm strength when it comes to fly balls! He also greatly enjoys climbing on everything he can get too..up the stairs, all the slides in the backyard...even the tallest! and mostly LOVES being outside and seeing people. He loves errands and getting out of the house, likes his carseat, likes playing with his toys, loves his brothers and others....common theme...he likes pretty much anything!! Well, except having his diaper changed, having a door closed in front of him or being told no. :) Typical 1 yr old! Well, I think that pretty much sums up our 1yr little Corbanator! We are truly blessed to be the parents of 3 such wonderful boys! Enjoy the pics!

Boys Summer '08 Goals Accomplished!
At the beginning of the summer we gave Brady & Nathan some summer goals that they needed to accomplish. Brady's were to swim 1/2 way across the pool, be able to tie both shoes, and to play a dedicated song on the piano near the end of his beginner piano book. Nathan's was to learn to pump himself in the swing (same as Brady's last year!). They both did awesome! So, today was their celebration day. Watch the video's below to see them sharing. It was raining today so we didn't get picks of Nathan swinging...we'll get that on here soon! They also were given passes to a Water Park Party for their Library Summer Reading program to read 30 min/day for 30days. We're on our way tonight! woohoo! Way to Go Brady & Nathan!

Corbans curls disappear...
Corban had his 1st haircut tonight and had a BLAST!! He's such a little happy fellow... and he looks SOOo different!
Summer Backyard Fun
Our family has had some of it's greatest memories right in our own backyard! We LOVE to play outside in the yard and this summer has been no exception! Especially when it comes to searching for our family backyard frog and playing in the pool. Our trip to Atlanta, Ga to visit my my Aunts/Uncles/cousins was a blast and the boys were AMAZING little travelers. (stay tuned for pics from that trip - there are about 350 so I'm having to sort through them!) It's hard to believe we only have a month of summer left before school starts up. We'll officially have a kindergartner! crazy AND Corban will be 1 in just under 2 weeks AND Brandon and I will celebrate our 12th annivesary. Such wonderful milestones and we are excited about each of them. Today we get Corbans 1 yr portraits taken and then he gets his 1st real haircut tonight - yes, the curls will be gone. Although with mine and Brandon's curly hair, I'm sure they will return quickly! Enjoy some fun pics from the end of July. We have a very busy August with
many more events, so I'm sure there will be lots to post soon.

Visiting the Largest Aquarium in the World

Yesterday we visited the largest Aquarium in the World at the Georgia Aquarium. The boys were awed! Brady's favorites were the SeaDragon, which he had learned about this past year, and the silly sea otter! (of course!) Nathan's favorite was the amazing Whale Shark - the largest fish in the world. Corbans favorite was everything!! He was mesmerized by the whole experience. We've had so much fun visiting all Christi's aunts/uncles/cousins in Atlanta.

4th of July!
We had so much fun this 4th of July! We made tons of fun cool crafts and really spent time learning all about the holiday. The boys had a blast at all the events we had going on! Enjoy the pics!

Vacation Bible School
The boys attended their very 1st VBS this year and had SO much fun!! Along with that, they also had their very 1st performance on a big stage!!! Boy were they excited as they signed and sang words to a song they had been working on all week!! Unfortunately Brandon was at our church's staff retreat and had to miss it so Grandma filled in! It was hard to get really good pictures but here are a couple. Oh, and since I was videoing their performance I didn't actually get pics of that! ooops! If you double click on them you can see them a little better big.

Fathers Day Fishing 2008
This weekend for Fathers Day, we took the boys fishing at a pond just down from Grammy and Granddaddy's house. It was the boys first time to fish and we were all surprised that they caught something! Brady caught 3 little perch and Nathan a catfish!!! That catfish was really sneaky and ate about 10 worms off the pole before we actually caught him!! They were SOOO excited!! and Daddy had a great time too with his boys for Fathers Day! OH, and can I say just what little boys they are - theycaught all the worms themselves in the backyard before fishing!!

Our Little Beach Cuties
On Memorial Day weekend we went to the lake with Brandon's parents for some fun in the sun. Our little guys LOVE the lake and Corban took to the sand like a pro. He Loved playing in it, tearing down castles (making his brothers really frustrated!) and eating it!! It didn't phase him a bit to have it from head to toe and in mouth! We had a great time!

Corban turns 9 months today!
9 months and on the move... that's our little Corban! He is following suite with his older brothers as being a little social butterfly. He LOVES people. Let's just say if he's having a fussy day, we leave the house to run an errand and his day turns upside down! It has shocked me this month to see all the changes. I think I had forgotten how fast they come! He has started eating more real people foods (he especially LOVES eating paper!), he has 3.5 teeth, he can crawl up 2-3 stairs (ok, wasn't prepared for that one!), he can wave hi and bye, clap to songs, say's "please" in sign language when he wants something, pulls up on everything he can (lots of head noggins from slipping!), throws a fit when told no or something is taken away (so cute - for now..), has started playing the shy game with strangers by burying his head, can throw a ball pretty far (and everything else in his hand!), has been sick for the past month!, LOVES to play with his brothers and laugh, likes to read books and play sing-song games (ride 'em horsey), despises having his diaper changed, enjoys being outside and swinging and above all - HE LOVES BALLS!!! His first word was dada and his second word was Ball (still no mama)!! Yeah, he doesn't say the ll's clear yet, but if he see's a ball, it's bau, bau, bau, bau!! He would play with balls all day and has a blast throwing it, crawling to get it, throwing and on and on. He is such a cutie and a very happy guy!! Hopefully he'll get over this double ear infection, sinus infection and chest infection soon so we get his happiness back fully!! He's had a tough month, poor little guy! He's been such a trooper and it's amazing he's already 9mo old!! What a blast it's been! Each day with our 3 boys is so fun and such a joy!
